James Ward opened his 2014 Sarasoto challenge with a comfortable 6-2 6-2 victory over the seventh seed Facundo Bagnis.
The Brit was in superb form as h brushed aside the Argentine world number 132. Winning his first match since Indian Wells qualifying, Ward broke Bagnis twice in each set to claim victory.
The British number three is playing in his first tournament since Britain's Davis Cup defeat to Italy in Naples a couple of weeks ago.
Ward bounced back from his singles defeats to Andreas Seppi and Fabio Fognini with his opening round victory in Sarasoto.
Ward has plenty of history with the second-tier tournament after he claimed the title in 2009, the first of his three career challenger titles.
Last year Ward also reached the second round before crashing out in three sets to Mischa Zverev. This year he will be seeking to progress further into the competition as he takes on the qualifier Antonio Veic.
Veic overcame a tricky opening round tie with Illya Marchenko, eventually prevailing 5-7 6-2 6-1. The Brit will also be seeking revenge after losing to Veic in the first round of last years Santiago Challenger in Chile.
