Bubba Watson Wins Second Masters

An Emotional Bubba Claims his Second Masters
Bubba Watson fought back against the early charge of youngster Jordan Spieth as he claimed his second Masters title. The victory marks Watson's second green jacket in just three years, making him the twelfth American to win at Augusta on more than one occasion.

After a tense front nine between himself and his playing partner Spieth, Watson pulled away, eventually securing a comfortable victory. On a day touted to be one of the closest in recent memory the chasing pack failed to conjure up any sort of substantial attack leaving Bubba alone at the top.

Watson had led by three shots going into the weekend after a scintillating couple of opening days but questions were being asked, after previously winning only one of the eight tournaments he led at the half way point. And it looked as though this form would continue after a nervous Saturday for the American leading to the rest of the field catching up.

Early in his final round it looked as though Watson had not fully recovered from his Saturday disappointment, as he dropped a shot on the third to move behind Jordan Spieth and alongside Matt Kuchar and Swede Jonas Blixt.

Spieth was aiming to become the youngest ever winner of the Masters and started in terrific style, shooting four birdies in the first seven holes as well as a bogey, to move to eight under par and two shots ahead of Watson.

Neither Blixt nor Kuchar could replicate the stunning start of the rookie as they maintained a steady start to their final day. Blixt made just one bogey and one par on the front nine whilst the early progress made by Kuchar was quickly halted by a double bogey at the third.

Jordan Spieth - A Future Star?
Soon enough though, it was Spieth's turn to join Blixt and Kuchar in playing second fiddle to Watson as the enormity of the situation seemed to take its toll on the lead up to Amen Corner. It was the eighth and ninth holes which turned the tide of the game. Whilst Spieth crumbled, suffering back-to-back bogeys, Watson flourished with two birdies to completely turn the tide on his young compatriot.

These holes completely swung the momentum towards Watson and from there he never looked back. By the end of Amen Corner Watson was three shots to the good against Spieth and with no other movement from below it looked as though he had it all wrapped up with a few holes to spare.

Jonas Blixt picked up a late birdie to apply some pressure on Watson and join his fellow rookie Spieth on five under par but Watson was unshakable, knocking in par after par to consolidate his position and ensure he earned himself a second title.

By the final hole it was simply inevitable save for a complete calamity and his walk up the fairway was almost the golfing equivalent of a lap of honour. As he parred the final hole to finish three clear of Blixt and Spieth on eight under par an emotional Bubba celebrated with his family before collecting his second green jacket.
